The Australian Open Is Underway, Grand Slam Tennis Returns in Style 🎾
The first Grand Slam of the year is officially underway as the Australian Open returns to Melbourne, and once again the tennis world is turning its attention Down Under.
With packed stadiums, late-night thrillers, and the world’s best players battling it out in the summer heat, the Australian Open always sets the tone for the season, and 2026 is already shaping up to be no different.
Last Year’s Champions, A Look Back at 2025
The 2025 Australian Open produced two unforgettable champions.
On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner continued his rise to the very top of the game, lifting the trophy in Melbourne and cementing his status as one of the dominant forces in world tennis.
On the women’s side, Madison Keys claimed her first Australian Open title in a hugely emotional and deserved triumph, adding her name to the honour roll at one of tennis’s most iconic tournaments.
Australian Open Records, The All-Time Greats
When it comes to history at Melbourne Park, two names stand above the rest.
Novak Djokovic remains the most successful men’s singles player in Australian Open history with an incredible 10 titles, a record that underlines just how dominant he has been on these courts. Beyond Melbourne, Djokovic’s place in tennis history is already secure. He is the most successful men’s Grand Slam singles player of all time, having won every major multiple times and completing the career Grand Slam more than once. His haul includes titles at the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, and he has also held all four Grand Slam titles at the same time across seasons, a feat achieved by only the very greatest players in the sport. Add in his record weeks as world number one and his countless Masters titles, and it is hard to argue against his status as one of, if not the, greatest men’s tennis player of all time.
On the women’s side, Margaret Court holds the all-time Australian Open record with 11 singles titles, a mark that still stands as one of the most remarkable achievements in Grand Slam history. Even more incredibly, she also holds the record for the longest back-to-back winning run at the tournament, winning the title seven years in a row from 1960 to 1966, a level of dominance that may never be matched at Melbourne Park.
British Interest in Melbourne 🇬🇧
There is plenty of British interest to follow this year too.
Emma Raducanu is already safely through to the second round and will be hoping to build momentum as the tournament progresses.
Meanwhile, Cam Norrie and Arthur Fery are both in action tomorrow, flying the flag for British tennis and looking to make their mark in the early rounds.
The Australian Open, More Than Just Tennis
The Australian Open is not just a tennis tournament, it is a global sporting spectacle. From day sessions in the sun to late-night five-set epics under the lights, Melbourne once again becomes the centre of the sporting world for two incredible weeks.
As always, expect drama, surprises, breakout stars, and unforgettable moments as the race for the first Grand Slam titles of the year heats up.
